Wish I'd known about food aversions!

I never got cravings – or at least I haven’t yet. Instead, I’ve now gone off food I’ve loved forever! All of a sudden I can’t face chocolate, garlic or coffee – or the smells of them. It’s so bizarre and not something I’d expected. I guess it’s actually a good thing I don’t feel like chocolate or coffee – less calories and caffeine. I guess I should probably be glad I’m not craving them!

    Hospitals - public or private

Although we have private health insurance I've decided (I think!) to go public because there are still significant out of pocket expenses involved with choosing a private obstetrician/going to a private hospital. Would love to hear what other people are doing or have done previously, and what your thoughts are on quality of care etc. Not sure if going public is a mistake, but I haven't heard anything horrendous to date, so figure it should be ok... Thoughts??

Have I turned into a crazy, emotional wreck of a woman?!

Since I found out I was pregnant, my emotions have gone completely crazy! One moment I’m euphoric, the next I’m scared/stressed, and the next I’m bawling over a TV advert. I do know it’s normal, but I really do feel like I’m losing the plot! Anyone else feeling the same way?

    Exercise in pregnancy

I thought I’d post this because I’d heard a lot of conflicting information about whether or not it’s ok to hit the gym while pregnant – and about how much exertion to undertake. I spoke to a personal trainer who specialises in pre and post natal exercise and she said that on the whole, for women who have uncomplicated pregnancies and normal blood pressure, exercise is fine. Don’t take up anything new so you’re not suddenly using previously unused muscles, and definitely avoid contact sport. Make sure when you exercise that you’re able to maintain a conversation – you shouldn’t be overly puffed or find it difficult to breathe. Low impact activities are great – swimming in particular is brilliant because of the sense of weightlessness. The trainer I spoke to also said not to lift weights more than a few kilos so you’re not straining, and to avoid the treadmill if you’re feeling like your centre of gravity is off (the last thing you need is to be tumbling off a treadmill belt!) I was also curious about pilates, which I’ve recently taken up. He said that in general pilates is fine, but to make sure I didn’t do exercises on my back after the 12 week mark because of the pressure that bub would exert on my major blood vessels.

    Ahhhh - just gorgeous!

How can you say no to a face like this?

How can you say no to a face like this?

The big blue eyes, the pouty lips, the innocent look - how can I stick to my stern look after he's tipped the third consecutive bowl of porridge on the floor? You can't - that's the truth. And who wants to anyway - he's learning about gravity! Baby feeding habits are so funny.
