hi, I have PCOS as well and I spent a few years trying to fall pregnant, I had a M/C and then they found out I had PCOS and it was harder to fall pregnant as I got older. I am on metformin which is prescribed to help with PCOS, are you on that? I had a few goes at Clomid which is to help you ovulate but had no luck, it was stressful hoping to get pregnant, thinking there was chance coz period late and being let down all the time. In the end I gave up trying and forgot all about having kids, thinking just wasnt meant too, then one day 5 months later I was pregnant. I am now TTC again but just not stressing about it as much this time if it happens it happens. I hope you dont have the same long problem as me, I hope it all goes smoothly for you :) Good Luck for when you do start TTC

I am also a PCOS'er and was told I was going to have to have help to get pregnant. I was put on Metformin for about a year to help with the other PCOS issues and found myself pregnant within only a few months of trying. You never know with PCOS. I have to say though, I was really fit and at a good weight at the time. I was told with PCOS your weight has a lot of influence on conception. Good luck though! It can happen :-)

  • I'm not on anything for pcos right now. Whats M/C and TTC stand for? I was told I had to loose weight by Zearly July before they'll consider doing anything for me. I've had everything else checked out and my cholestrole is a tad high, bu other than that everything else is good. What I really don't want is diabettes during prgnancy as it's occured in my family.

  • I have PCOS, the first time trying, we fell pregnant within the first month, but sadly lost the baby at 10 weeks. The second time took 9 months of trying, then lost the baby at 17 weeks. This time, we have been trying for 6 months, and no luck yet.

Unfortunately a family history of diabetes will means you'll have a higher chance than normal of developing gestational diabetes (GD) during your pregnancy. It's not the end of the world though - I developed GD and didn't have to take insulin or meds, but controlled it completely with diet and exercise. Believe it or not, you can get GD when you weigh 50kg or 90kg - PCOS means you're more likely to get it anyway, and add to that a family history... Like I said though I handled it easily, and gave birth to a perfectly healthy - he wasn't over weight or over sized at all - perfect! So don't worry too much. It's easy to treat and goes away (most of the time) once the baby has arrived. Mine disappeared within a week. Cuddoolz- wishing you a wonderfully happy, full-term pregnancy and a gorgeous baby! We are all cheering you on over here!!!

  • Hi power16, I have PCOS and am pleased to say am 30 weeks pregnant! I'd love to say it happened over night but sadly it didn't. I only ovulate about twice a year and after trying acupuncture, herbs, several cycles of clomophine (sp?) I found homeopathy was the best for me. 4 cycles on a homeopathic plan specially formulated for women that had ovulation problems and I was pregnant "naturally". Would highly recommend having the support of something 'natural'. I have some details of the homeopathic program lying around home somewhere - let me know if you are interested and I will try dig it out for you :-) Good luck!

  • Hi power16. I have PCOS and I also have an 18yr old as well as a 18mth old. I was told I will not be abe to concieve so I took very little precausion and I did fall pregnant when I wasnt trying and ended up being a single mum for 15yrs, then I met my now husband and we both have a son each so didnt think at our age we would want another child as I was 42 so we bought a Siberian Husky puppy and 3 mths later I thought I was going through menapause but it turned out I was 9 weeks pregnant. We have a healthy happy 18mth old boy and we are currently trying to concieve a sibling for him. I think the trick is to not stress to much and just have fun with trying and it will happen if its ment to be. I hope i have given you some hope.

  • Thanks guys. This is really encouraing. I'm sorry for those of you who have had a misscarrigae with pcos. I really would love to concive naturally @Libs and any info would be very handy. I felt like I was at a loss with pcos. The gynae didn't really explain things that well plus I've seen 2 different ones as my first one was out and we had a doctor from Melbourne who gave me the diagnois as the first time we couldn't confirm without the proper bloods

  • Hi Power16.. I have PCOs too and I have been trying for over a year now..I started Clomid and after 4 months I was pregnant but lost the baby at almost 12 weeks last week. I can tell you I'm overweight at the moment (about 10kg) and my doctor told me to loss weight and have a healthy diet, I'm planning to do that before I try for another baby. To cuddoolz *big hug* I know the feeling... :( To Libs, can you send us some information.

  • when you all were diagnosed were you given the medication straight away or did they tell you to loose weight, change your diet and if that doesn't help we'll put you on something? That's what they told me. Is it because I don't want to start a family till the end of the year? Does anyone get pain in their ovaries? I get constant pain in my left ovary, as i only have pcos on my left side, and the pain can vary

  • Hello! Mine is a slightly different story but thought I would share :) Yes, I have PCOS and told it would be hard to conceive. I had been overweight and not trying for a baby but also not taking precautions to not have one either (but never ended up falling pregnant). I ended up getting a lap band back in Nov 07 - not for trying to conceive but for my own health, ended up losing 33kg over about 8 months and then found out I was pregnant. Think for me that would have been the only way I would have been able to have a baby. Of course I put weight on after the 2nd baby and always planned to lose it (needed to lose about 10kg to get back to pre-baby weight) and then ended up falling pregnant again. Have just given birth to my 2nd gorgeous girl. So, best of luck with it all - this might not be everyones solution but it was definitely mine :) Good luck and keep us posted.

  • Hi again power16, I was talking to a mum at mothers group about concieving with PCOS as she also has it and is 15kg over her ideal weight, she told me she fell pregnant by using an ovulation test kit she got online, its what they use for ivf, the web site is PREGNOW and you can buy different items to help test for ovulation. i had a look at the site and the prices are better than in store prices. Just thought this might help. web address www.fertilitysolutions.com.au

I have PCOS and we TTC for 18 months before going through IVF. During that 18months i lost 27kg through diet and exercise. Our first IVF cycle failed and our second one was cancelled as the scans showed only one follicle responding to the meds... that little follicle became our naturally conceived son! Between my PCOS and hubby's low sperm morphology we only had a 4% chance of conceiving naturally. But it happened! :) Since giving birth 10 months ago my period has returned and is as regular as clockwork so when we decide to go for number 2 later this year i hope it will be a bit easier.

  • Hi there, I have PCOS and we spent two years trying to get pregnant. I am very happy to say I gave birth to twin boys on Australia Day. So I can tell you it does happen, it just takes time! I am overweight and did not manage to lose any weight prior to falling pregnant. I ended up being on Metformin and Clomid, and I also was on several natural supplements given to me by my naturopath who specialises in helping women get pregnant. Once I was on all the drugs it took me I think 4 cycles to conceive - with help from my doctors we tracked my temperature daily and knew from that when I was likely to be ovulating, so we knew the best days to try. I feel very lucky to have two beautiful boys now and we will try again for a sister for them in the future, and will do both the drugs and the natural supplements again. GOOD LUCK!!!

  • hi, i also have PCOS, have had my thyroid removed at age of 27 and are currently on my first cycle of Clomid. My fertility specialist told me she didnt care if i took Metformin (which was perscribed to me in NZ where Im from) as it would not effect me getting pregnant as I am not ovulating. I have to have tests every 3 weeks to check my thryoid levels as they need to be below 2 for pregnancy and once pregnant every 2 weeks. If the levels are higher then 2 which they currently are, the endocrinologist adjust my meds accordingly. She also has to monitor me as i have a 80% chance of developing gestational diabetes even though im not overweight at all - its just part and parcel. On Day 21 of my cycle (which only turned up after deciding to stop 74 days ago due to being prescribed Provera) ill be tested to see if i ovulate this time - many eggs but none coming out :( If i don't then ill have my dose of clomid increased and so on. I said i wanted to have 2 kids by the time i was 30 - well that is in 2 months time . I have met a few ppl with pcos and it does take time but sure it will happen for you. Fingers crossed

  • wow... I have obviously been very lucky in terms of conception... I have PCOS and fell pregnant within 3 weeks of trying (unfortunately it turned out to be an ectopic), then 5 weeks the second time (resulting in my beautiful son) then the third time took 7 weeks, but was unfortunately another ectopic. With regards to the PCOS, everything I have read says that to have the best chance, the less excess weight you're carrying to begin with the better, and also avoiding certain foods... if I can remember the name of the website I found most helpful, I will comment it on here for you.... Good luck, I hope it happens quickly for you.

  • Hi power16, I was diagnosed with PCOS at 15 and told then I would have difficulty having children. A year later I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (they are linked) and then about 2 years later I was diagnosed with Endometriosis. Fast forward 10 years I stopped taking the pill in July 2009 and was trying to fall pregnant. 18 moths later and 6 weeks before our Wedding in March 2011 we found out we were pregnant. I had not had a period since November 2010 and we conceived in January. We now have a healthy baby boy who is six months old. So never give up and don't worry if you haven't had a period as with PCOS you can ovulate at any time, we are proof of that. Good luck :)
