Grommets - Info please

My LO has got his second ear infection is as many months (& it's not even Winter!) & our GP is going to give us a referral to an ENT to see if he needs grommets. Anyone familiar with the surgery, what it entails, recovery timings & issues, & if it made a difference to your LO. Thanks in advance :)

I have to admit when the ENT told me my 22 month little girl had to have grommets put in grommets in last year I was quite apprehensive. She'd had throat, ear & chest infections every two weeks since she was a couple of months old, so that was the decision. It ended up being a simple 5 min procedure and when she came out of recovery she was fine. What we did notice however, two days later, when she waved bye to daddy in the morning when he went to work in the diesel van, was that she started screaming. It took me a minute to realize, she'd never heard this before, at least at full volume. It was such a difference. She started saying words she never had before, all because she could hear properly. All up we've had a really positive outcome. We recently went back because we'd found out that one of the grommets had fallen out (as they're designed to do) to get checked up and everything was healing well. On the other hand, I have friends whose children have had them in and has many problems with them. It is hard at first, if they're used to showering because you can't let water get in them, but a shower-cap or baths help with this and there's a great product called dry shampoo that you spray in their hair and simple brush out to 'wash' it. Best is to see what is recommended for your little one and do your own research to decide what is best for you and them.
