There are several things to look out for when you’re trying to conceive. Pregnancy test after pregnancy test, it’s one of the biggest waiting games ... and often, it happens when you least expect it! We’re here to help you work out the early signs of pregnancy so that you know exactly what to look out for.

What are your early pregnancy symptoms? From tender breasts to missing a period, are you experiencing any? If you’ve got any questions, add a post and we can help.

Changes to your breasts

Studies have shown that breast changes are one of the earliest signs of pregnancy. The skin around your nipples is called the areola and one sign of pregnancy can be that it becomes noticeably darker and bigger. Other breast changes may include tenderness or your bra getting tighter.

Missed a period

It is considered to be one of the more obvious early signs of pregnancy. If your period is unusually late, it’s worth taking a pregnancy test.

The classic pregnancy symptom, morning sickness!

Morning sickness affects everyone differently – it can be anything from slight feelings of nausea to full-on vomiting. It can start a few weeks after conception or even after just a few days. While many women experience morning sickness to varying degrees, some won’t experience it at all. And why it is called “morning sickness” is beyond anyone who has experienced it, as it can strike at any time of day or night, not just in the mornings! Have you experienced the infamous morning sickness? Share your tips for getting through it with us on Karimums.

Going to the loo a lot!

If you notice you are visiting the loo more often to empty your bladder, this may be a sign that you’re pregnant. All of the hormonal changes your body goes through during the first trimester can make toilet stops more frequent.

Feeling exhausted?

One of the most common early signs of pregnancy is a feeling of complete exhaustion. It happens as a side-effect of a rise in the levels of the hormone progesterone in your body. So if there’s no other real reason for you to be so tired, check the other pregnancy symptoms here in this article.

A funny taste in your mouth

Some mums say that when they first became pregnant they got a funny, metallic taste in their mouth. Other women develop an unexpected dislike for something everyday and familiar, like tea or coffee.

Aversion or cravings

Some mums say that they develop aversions or cravings to certain smells and foods. This can happen quite soon after conception for some women because of the changes in hormones.

Take a pregnancy test

Signs of pregnancy

If you think you may be pregnant, check your suspicions with a home pregnancy test. This is best done first thing in the morning when your urine is more concentrated. And if it comes back positive – congratulations! It’s off to visit your doctor for a blood test and an ultrasound. Remember to ask our Careline midwives if you have any questions.

And once you’re pregnant, don’t forget to share your changes with us week by week! You can also use our pregnancy calculator to estimate your due date.
