Mum, it’s me!
Yes mum, I know - I’m being a massive bed hog. I’m filling up almost the entire space in here now and it’s getting really hard to move. You might even see my hands and feet protruding from your belly as I try to stretch myself out and fling around! I’m slowly starting to drop into your pelvis and I’m responding to just about everything from the outside world, including light, sound and pain - so go easy on me in here! My kidneys and liver are now functioning and I’ve noticed your amniotic fluid is starting to shrink, which can only mean one thing ... we’re almost there mum! Have you had your baby shower yet? I think I’ve heard you talking about it. Sounds like fun!
How are you?
If you’re prone to leaving things to the last minute, now’s the time to get organised. The more prepared you are, the less manic you’ll be on the big day. A good place to start is getting your hospital bag packed if you haven’t already.
It’s also a good time to make a list - yes, another one - of important phone numbers (your midwife, doctor, child carer, partner, birth partner, taxis etc). Put it into your phone or your purse so it’s always with you.
Hopefully you haven’t got any varicose veins, but they are surprisingly common, especially if you have a family history of getting them. As your uterus grows during pregnancy, it presses on the veins in your pelvis and hormonal changes can also affect the valves in your veins. This all contributes to their development, so keep your fingers crossed!
